Almost Famous
“If you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends.“
A film that just absolutely has everything. fantastic 70s aesthetics, Zeppelin and Bowie needle drops (can’t forget the inclusion of neil young too), Philip Seymour Hoffman’s imposing presence I’ve come to expect every time and Kate Hudson just charming her way into stealing a scene.
Such a fun ride I couldn’t take my eyes off my screen. The dynamics in play between all the main characters was encapsulating. Strongest was probably Penny and Russel, both flawed humans with so much depth I could’ve spent so long with them. Even today, the euphoric road trip perfectly captures the self destruction of touring musicians in the 1970s. Music isn't about cocaine and long hair, free love and road trips... it's about a feeling.
So glad I watched the Directors cut I would’ve happily watched another hour.
