The Substance

This movie right here is a perfect example why I LOVE horror movies as a medium. This movie flawlessly encapsulates what it means for people and more specifically women to have to perform to be worthy of people's love and affection. Especially within Hollywood, women are held at such a high standard where they constantly have to look good forcing them to undergo plastic surgery and lose themselves in the process. "You look good for your age". Why can't they look good, period? We have reached a point in humanity where old age brings negative reactions from people but we must realize that old age comes from all of us and all we can do is age gracefully without butchering ourselves over it. I BEG every woman to watch this film, love yourself more, stop performing for men's needs. You create life and should treat yourself accordingly. This movie is a lightning in a bottle.
