Ping Pong the Animation
“We can fly”
This wasn’t just another sports anime. It really wasn’t. It’s not about ping pong. It’s about identity. About who you are when the expectations hit, when talent alone isn’t enough, when you’re forced to face yourself.
The last three episodes were on a different level. The match between Kazama and Peco didn’t feel like a typical final showdown. It felt personal. Years of pressure, ego, frustration and self-doubt all colliding at once. Kazama carrying the image of perfection. Peco finally stepping into the person he was always meant to become. It wasn’t overdramatic. It just felt real.
What I liked the most about the art style is how it reflects perception. In rough moments characters look distorted, sharp, almost ugly. In calmer scenes they look softer, lighter. It’s like the anime understands that we don’t see people objectively. We see them through emotion. And that alone makes the style so unique. It’s not just “different for the sake of being different”. It actually adds meaning.
And the side cast is insane. Honestly top 5 side casts in any anime I’ve watched. Smile, Peco, Kazama, Sakuma they all feel painfully human. Their insecurities, their pride, the way they cope with failure. None of them feel like background characters. They feel real. Relatable in a way that hits.
For me this anime genuinely gave me a new perspective on growth. Talent means nothing if you don’t evolve. Being a “hero” isn’t about being perfect. It’s about choosing to step up when it matters.
