***Forbidden Games*** begins in heartbreaking fashion, but then it offers the viewer little slices of hope and humanity throughout its 90-minute runtime. Anchored by amazing performances, it’s a simple film that tackles complex subject matters. Brigitte Fossey delivers one of the most remarkable performances ever by a child actor in her portrayal of Paulette.

**March ‘26 challenge: Watch 5 (at least) movies featuring Ryan Gosling - #1** It’s a shame that one of Ryan’s finest performances is “buried” in ***The Believer***, a film that no one seems to talk about. While the script tackles important themes as it pits a young man against his own convictions, it never explores its subject matter with the required depth. Nevertheless, it’s engrossing and poses important questions.
