Ichi the Killer
This is one of the rare occasions where I actually like the movie character version way more than the manga version, Kakihara is just perfect in the movie, amazing wardrobe as well.
I simply have no words on how incredible this movie is, the first time I've watched was exactly a year ago, I was amazed by it and I had no idea why I didn't watch it earlier. After finishing it, I kept thinking about this movie over and over again, like if it was growing inside me, besides listening to the soundtrack almost every week. The art style and directing is so experimental and art house, the camera work almost reminds me of Fallen Angels in some shots. And of course, it was my introduction movie to Takashi Miike.
Ichi the Killer soundtrack is probably in my Top 5 movie soundtracks. How can a soundtrack sound so brutal and at the same time relaxing and soothing?
The first time I've watched this movie, I was just dumbfounded by it, even more after the fact that I've discovered that who made the soundtrack is a Japanese noise music band called Boredoms, and one of the members is the legendary Yamataka Eye, the same guy who created the danger music band Hanatarash, yes, the same band who drove a fucking bulldozer through the back wall of a venue, into the stage. When I first found out about this, I was in shock and I finally understood why the soundtrack is amazingly good and why it matches perfectly with Ichi the Killer and its theme.
This movie is one of those movies that makes you want to have a physical copy of it.
