Suspiria
Suspiria is a psychedelic, trippy nightmare that hooks you in from the beginning and swoops you under your feet with its—to say the least—magnetic charm and extraordinary visuals that both unsettle and entice.
As the young girls are hypnotized into this fantasy of a prestigious academy, so too is the audience seduced by the film’s kaleidoscopic colors and set design mixed with entrancing and surreal lighting. It chews you up and spits you out once you have tasted the bitterness of its truth. As underneath all its alluring charm, lies the mystery of the dying girl, the creepy whispers in the dead of night, the shabby noises behind the walls, the crawling infestation.. It is a fever dream that traps you in with no way to escape.
The film is not one asking to be understood or thoroughly analyzed; it wishes instead to hold you captive under its anesthetic spell laced with hysteria and ambient chilly terror. Even after the credits roll, its eerie tune remains tickling in your head. Alas, you have been haunted by the ghost of the film, and it sure won't let you go so easily.
