Akira

The film that made anime’s popularity skyrocket internationally, and I understand why.  The best part about this film has got to be the colours, it is so stunning, each and every scene of this film had immeasurable amount of details that no other animated media can ever capture even to this day. The fact that they invented almost 50 new colours is just enough to show how much dedication the entire animation team had.  The story was just so compelling and intricate once you think about it, it makes you think that maybe everyone is maybe good or maybe bad. For example, Kaneda is supposedly “the hero” of the story, but the movie opens with him and his gang terrorising the city just to chase down a rival gang.  I think no other anime film can ever beat how influential this film was, especially the Akira slide.
