Fallen Angels
I went into this movie expecting another aesthetic masterpiece by Wong Kar Wai after I finished Chungking Express. I at first didn’t know how to feel about this movie, the movie by itself felt really messy and going nowhere, even confusing at some points that I didn’t know how this movie will end. Then when the ending came, I realised this movie is a complete opposite to Chungking Express, I’ve been looking at this movie the wrong way.
Chungking Express showed the beauty that love can make us feel and experience in our life, how love can come and go but will never end, there will always be another person out there waiting for you and you will feel that amazing feeling of love again. But Fallen Angels is the complete opposite, we explore the ugly parts of love, how our two main characters fall in love with people who don’t even love them back and how it will slowly break us when we keep dwelling on these feelings, putting too much hope can cause even more pain to us.
It is absolutely incredible that Wong Kar Wai can tackle complete opposites in one genre, and absolutely nail both of them.
