Irreversible
Gaspar Noe’s work might be very divisive for people, you might love or hate him, never in between. This film is my first exposure to him and man, I hate how much I love this movie. This movie is one of the most violent, uncomfortable, disturbing, aggressive, ruthless movie I have watched, yet it is all done so well that I can’t help but praise Gaspar Noe.
I get why people are so disgusted by the tunnel scene, causing them to look at this movie in a bad light. But in my opinion, that scene is made to outrage and shock people, force them to watch the cruel reality of what the victims have to go through, it is long on purpose without cuts because they can’t fast forward that moment, they can’t skip it, Gaspar Noe forces us to watch what the victims have to experience without any sugar coating at all. The fact that the rapist goes to a gay club shows us that he didn’t even do it to feel pleasure, he did it just to feel some sick power over her and cursing her out, calling her the most repulsive and sickening thing a person can ever say, is all so tragic.
The camerawork, soundtrack, cinematography in this movie are all done to the point of perfection that it makes me love the movie so much, truly one of the best movies I have ever watched.
