one of the most cinematically appealing presentation of rural India back in the era, and such pure form of love story in the background of the independence struggle. a must-watch
oh one of the underappreciated gems of everyone involved (srk, preity, manisha, mani ratnam, and so on). the movie starts with a stalking love story which goes on to become a mysterious mission and then an anti terror narrative; with Preity Zinta shots in between (her debut btw :) also look at her in Jiya Jale). and don't even get me started on how ABSOLUTELY GOATED the album is, AR Rehman totally marinated, cooked, and served.
manisha is criminally underrated. what mani ratnam and ar rahman did with this masterpiece is highly underappreciated. even the backdrop and the narrative is so well set, the acting is spot on and the script is literally fire, the writers need a raise.
the fact that this is rehman's debut and still slaps so hard is really a testament to his genuis. mani ratnam my goat with another absolute masterpiece. if you think any of his terrorism trilogy films aren't good, that just means you didn't understand the complexity in their stories. you really can't expect to get into a mani ratnam film thinking it'd be a simple light watch.
another kashmir context but this one's grounded more in love than in war. you cannot not appreciate the beautiful frames, stellar debutants, and spot-on screenplay
one of srk's underrated (and best) works. totally puts it in the list of movies he didn't overact in. not only is kajol and his chemistry fire, as always, but also his portrayal of a patient of Asperger's syndrome is so very well done. the theme is not necessarily war per se, but the setting is definitely an ominous one.
as someone put it "it's a mess, but it's a beautiful mess". complicated but such relevant and beautiful story; the idea is great. it's not a war per se, but more like a riot situation, but fits the overall genre and the narrative really well.
oh the plot twist in the second half, totally changing the cutesy-romance in the first half to the bombing and terrorism in the second. the story develops so well you wouldn't want to skip anything, especially that in the second half
the way VVC captures the mini stories in knitting together the overall storyline cannot be sufficiently appreciated. Altaf's childhood is so nicely portrayed explaining his adult version, oh and Preity Zinta the show stealer in Bumbro. you might guess the plot maybe, but the experience of watching it develop is in itself worth it.
the way they have portrayed the internal disturbances, and the way they have unmasked the pretence of these enemies from within; such a compelling narrative and well knit story. also the leading love story never fails to disappoint.
LOVE the character development in Hrithik after breaking up with Preity. and the way things transpire, you cannot help but be proud of how they manage themselves in the setting of this war against Pakistan; where both are deployed in different capacities but end up making it up to each other for their past fallout.
