Roma
What a wonderful film to watch exactly one week before I leave Rome after spending the past 3.5 months studying here. The film is a collection of moments, history, experiences, and vibes of Rome, and it captures it perfectly from my point of view (obviously I am an American here and have only been here for a few months so that doesn't at all speak to its accuracy, but rather my emotional connection to the film and the city). Fellini captures the city with such splendor and beauty, yet also in a realistic way that doesn't glamorize every aspect of it. He treats it as a moving real city with so many different kinds of people and different pros and cons, just as the city truly is. It isn't some sort of monument; it is a real place. I loved watching it and seeing places I've been so many times (even if the film was made 50+ years before I showed up) and reminiscing on my own experiences there while watching others live through their own. While I may be here far after the time periods this film depicts, and I may not have lived these exact moments, this film perfectly captures the experiences I have personally had, and the love that I have and always will have for this city. Rome is a beautiful place, and Roma is a beautiful film. I will always cherish the knowledge, the people, and the unforgettable memories that I have found in Rome. My time here has been like no other. Goodbye Rome, thank you for everything.
