Sinners

“You keep dancing with the Devil… one day he’s gonna follow you home.” “Sinners” is a must see movie! Ryan Coogler cemented himself as a master of filmmaking with this one. A vampire thriller set to the background of Jim Crow Mississippi, following two brothers returning home after 7 years with the plans and funds to live out there dream - but only a nightmare is to come. At the heart of the this film is a love letter to blues and culture of black-Americans in the Deep South, and how they needed an out to enjoy themselves through all of their hardships living during the Jim Crow era. It was special seeing the scene where all of African-American music conjured into spirits celebrating with everyone hand-in-hand was awesome. Absolutely beautiful. Ryan Coogler has inspired me so much with this film, both visually and culturally. It’s a true testament to black creativity and art! Michael B Jordan as the Smoke-Stack Twins was nothing short of amazing! He brought both charisma and ruthlessness to the brothers, who could be laughing with you one minute, and be shooting you in the legs the next. Sammie has had great charm and was the heart of the film. Glad he got away and left all of that behind and used his talent for some good. Smoke would be proud! Almost every character was great so it’s truly hard to say who all my favorites were. Delroy Lindo as Delta Slim had me laughing the whole movie tho, he’s definitely one of them! “You don’t smell anything? I think I shit myself!” And I’m not familiar with the guy who played the main Vampire turnt up too! Also shoutout Hailee Steinfeld. Crazy. Special. Absolutely out of this fucking world. I mean Jesus Christ! Yeah 10/10. She’s perfect, sorry Dr. Umar. Great movie, go see it.
