Beautiful Boy
Finally watched it and it was incredibly sad AND relatable. Both for the dad and the son strangely. Also I feel like this is one of Timothée best role ever (I generally like more his acting in his first movies anyway), like he portrayed so well the type of person you can become when you have an addiction but also the real Nic himself, the one from the book. It’s funny how similar they look as well. The dad is also so real, like I almost thought seeing mine in some of the scenes and I felt super connected because he was trying to save someone he loves (here his son) but none of the efforts he did gave results. Sometimes there was hope but relapse was so quick. And I relate a lot to this, like the fact love cannot “fix” someone (and that’s what he finally realized at the end, saying he’s giving up on helping even when Nic AND his mom tried to call him to seek help). The end feels bittersweet because even if the dad said he’s not helping anymore (also because he kinda committed lmao), he came back because he’s still his dad and cannot abandon his son. The last shot is sooo well done, I really love it, like they still love each other after all, even if cannot fix everything they’re here for each other :)
