Tenet
Glad I got to watch this both in OV and German, Jesus, the dub helps so much!
Now, I don't want to be dismissive of people who don't enjoy this movie, but you guys are heartless bastards who don't understand film.
The villain's motivation is eh, the sound mixing is abhorrent and Elizabeth Demicki's subplot is basically just The Night Manager all over again (Nolan is continuing to show he has a real problem with depicting urgent and powerful women, that aren't somehow shown to be wrong), maybe even the physics presented make little logical sense (if I kill someone moving backwards, they're basically dead before they get to that point, are they not?! Am I dumb?) but in the end, it all somehow doesn't matter that much.
This film depicts an original narrative device to transport a timeless, yet very poignant message of not just letting it go or hoping it will work out on it's own, however certain a terrible future may seem. The "gimmick", the themes, even the constant mask-wearing fit undescribably well into 2020.
Time seems to have both stopped and accelerated and we're inching closer to a future with extremely harshened conditions, with climate change induced poverty leading to as rise of the nationalistic right and dangerous interstate relationships. The set pieces are creative, the visuals are spectacular (except for one slightly anticlimactic airplane scene) and the soundtrack just perfect. But most of all: the relationship between John David Washington and Robert Pattinson is beautiful.
Their strange, immediate chemistry, Pattinson's way of portaying an likeable counterpart to Washington's suave Bond, leading to one of the most gut wrenching scenes of the year.
Between 4 & 4.5, might change it.
