The Father
When trust runs out,
so does kindness.
Who
do I trust when I'm not even really
left.
The slow discovery of what is happening in this film really is more akin to a psychological thriller like The Shining than a family drama.
A man used to be in control of his brain and the world, an engineer with an understanding of reality beyond the average person's. Watching Anthony Hopkins struggle to reconcile he has since lost the control of his family, his life and even his mind is absolutely devastating. The performance is amazing and the dramatic structure not quite like anything you've ever seen. Wondering about and questioning the furniture, clothes, statements and actions you saw just a minute ago, eventually the ending hits you like a bullet train. Cruel and compassionate at once, like life itself.
