The Bund
Reviewing this in lieu of the actual 25-episode TV series which doesn't have any sort of an entry on here. And, god, this really is a great TV series. I have no idea what the quality of this edited movie could even be, because I couldn't imagine losing even a handful of episodes, but the actual series is phenomenal, first of all as a showcase of Chow Yun-Fat, who will likely never be given the full recognition he's earned as an actor and action hero. But I think his costars Angie Chiu and Ray Lui are also incredible in their own right, Chiu as Ching Ching, the daughter of a ruthless tycoon and crime boss, and Lui as Ting Lik, a poor fruit seller who becomes the best friend of Yun-Fat's Hui Man Keung.
There are a lot of themes, and I think many of them are covered on some level by the theme song by Francis Yip. This series is almost perfectly constructed, a tragedy slowly unfolding for all three of our heroes as fate inexorably closes every path leading to peace.
It's really good, please watch it.
"Lik...do you know where I was planning to go?"
