Wow. I am blown away by this film. The acting is just so good. The performance from Frankie Corio seems so genuine. The story is so amazing and the directing style is so unique and I really loved it. There are so many great shots and powerful long takes. The way this film shows how our vision of our parent’s invincibility can be broken really provides a personal touch that I don’t think many other films have done. The dynamic between Calum and Sophie is just so great at showing an authentic Father-Daughter relationship. Throughout the entire film you can feel the tension and pressure Calum is under. The scene with him crying on the bed truly hits hard. There are a number of shots where the score tells you something bad is gonna happen to him and then it just doesn’t. The ambiguity of what happens to Calum after the vacation is one of the best parts of the film in my opinion. When you finally see a closeup shot of him for the first time at the last dinner scene, it makes bis character feel vulnerable. This was so well done.
