Black Swan
This was my first time rewatching this film and I decided to kick it from a 9.4/10 to a 9.6. Darren Aronofsky has a distinct talent for depicting addiction and obsession at its most severe. He has a way of blurring the lines between fantasy and reality and what comes out to be both in this film. Ballerinas have to be obsessed with their craft to be successful and in this film Nina is so obsessed with her craft she forgets to feel what she is doing. Vincent Cassel's character pushes her to explore her more impulsive and erratic side to properly embrace the black swan part of the swan lake ballet. The way the cinematography frankly scares you is just such an awesome take on what this is like. This film is crafted to show how she literally has to kill a certain side of her personality (temporarily) to let herself go and embrace the black swan. But as the film ends you have to wonder whether the means was worth end. She performed perfectly but at what cost?
There is a YouTube video that I have linked that talks about the art of obsession in this film and the film Whiplash. I think it is so well worth the watch.
