In Bruges

This is one of the best comedy drama films I’ve ever watched. Gleason and Farrell have officially made it into my top ten favorite duos on screen. They both turned in fantastic performances and powerful ones at that. That’s before you even get to the plot of this masterpiece. The way this all unfolds itself is purely genius. The way the different side characters weasel their way into being important to the plot is amazing work. Ralph Fiennes also turns in a great performance as Harry. It’s an understandable situation from all points of view. You really feel for the characters and that’s the reason the ending hits so hard. Sacrifice is an overused thing in films to invoke an emotional response. However, it is so well done here and makes so much sense based on the way the characters are developed. And on top of all this great character development and plot there’s hilarious comedy as well. Colin Farrell is absolutely comical. The timing was on point for the whole film. All around peak. Definitely watch with subtitles if you aren’t English.
