Oppenheimer
This is a masterpiece just as it was advertised to be. I got absolutely everything I expected to get out of this and it’s yet another Christopher Nolan W. How does a director take a true story and make you feel like you are in suspense the whole time AND add a twist at the end? I don’t know but Nolan just did that for me.
I think the script here is outrageously great. It’s so complex and scientific and you can tell how much research went into this film. I loved the acting performances. The real standouts for me are Robert Downey Jr, Alden Ehrenreich, and obviously Cillian Murphy. I loved how great they played their parts and really bought into what they were saying on screen. You could tell they had deep understandings of their characters in real life and what they were saying in the re-enactments of those real life events.
I loved the pacing here as well. For a three hour movie, this was very well paced. The subject matter is so complex and difficult to understand and the shots don’t linger very long. There is so much squeezed into this film. All these huge events leading up to even bigger ones. I was entertained throughout the entire thing. I think that’s due in part to the way the timing was mixed in. The breakup of the shots that were in black and white versus the interview vs the flashbacks are amazing and kept me very engaged. I think having seen Memento before also helped with this part. The cinematography is also A+ and the fact that this is almost completely without CGI is still wild to me. An epic Biopic by an epic director in an epic outing with a stacked cast. I was not disappointed in the slightest. This is a top 20 movie of all time for me.
