Seven Samurai
This is honestly awesome. The original team up movie. Kurosawa did not disappoint. His ability to build characters is absolutely amazing. I loved what every single character had to bring to the table and how well they were developed throughout the film. The comedic aspects of the film are also surprisingly very funny. I do think the best piece of this film is the cinematography though. The long shots and the scenery shots are for the ages and are up there with the likes of Bergman, Kubrick and Hitchcock in the same era. The actual plot is also amazing as well. The small farm town stumbling upon samurai just willing enough to save their town from bandits. Learning how the samurai are different from one another and where they came from slowly throughout the film shows the genius of Kurosawa’s storytelling. And the themes at the end of the film regarding sacrifice and living a full life are unparalleled by most films. This film met expectations and Kurosawa continues to impress me with his work.
