The Odyssey
I felt like there was no mystery, no personality, no real risk taken. A friend jokingly accused me of being a right wing nutjob for hating this film, but for me this film was too right wing for me. It's not Elliot Page or Lupita Nyongo (I couldnlt care less for characters with barely any screentime), but the choices of cuts and camera movement, how it needed to keep reinforcing emotion with unnuanced OST and dramatisation that leaves no room for interpretation, nuance, or ambiguity. I really struggled because it was too fast, keep saying the most obvious things, and this was done with the biggest budget hollywood cast with all the mainstream techniques, and all of these are conservative values that take status quo to the extreme polishedness, but ultimately soulless, and the worst kind; it was missing the soul that of Nolan's. It is a complete success in a way that all Hollywood blockbuster requirements were met, yet there was no risk taken, nothing left for interpretation and nothing that challenges the art of filmmaking.
