Short Cuts
I showed this to my girlfriend last night. When we finished it we had a debate about what it all meant. I see the movie as hopeful, meant to show us that we’re all connected, we all have great depth to us, and that your neighbor, the local baker, and the bar singer all experience great pain and happiness just as you do. My girlfriend saw the film as bleak, choosing to show the worst parts of people.
Regardless of your take away, it’s an incredibly humanist film and an impressive feat of direction and performance. Maybe my favorite Altman over Nashville, McCabe, and The Player.
