Obsession
I was trying to decide whether to give this a 4.5 or a 5. My only nit pick is that the audio mixing could’ve been a bit better. I feel in some scenes the score is much louder than the dialogue but if that’s the only thing that I can say I didn’t like I think it deserves a 5.
I had gone into Obsession with extremely high expectations from everyone talking it up and it did not disappoint, if anything it still somehow exceeded my expectations.
I have not been this terrified and disturbed by a movie in a long time. Not since the scene in Weapons when the witch lady makes the parents stab themselves.
Give Inde Navarette the Oscar right now. She is such a talented actor and I’m excited to see where her career goes.
Audiences yearn for young directors and fresh faces acting their asses off. It is honestly so huge that both Backrooms and Obsession have outperformed Mandolorian and Grogu. We are truly coming into a new golden age of filmmaking.
And while it was terrifying pretty much the whole way through Curry Barker still finds ways to slip in comedy.
Curry is definitely a director to watch for the foreseeable future. I’m very excited about his next feature “Anything But Ghosts,” will be watching fucking opening day.
