speechless
EDIT: it's been a few hours and i'm no longer speechless. a few observations:
- THE ASPECT RATIO THING OH MY DAYSSSSS
- if you can use eiffel 65's "blue," without ruining the potency of an emotional scene, i can't really not give you 5 stars. same goes for wonderwall.
- as far as representations of neurodiversity go, though that isn't the main point of the film, this is one of the better ones. children with behavioural disorders, such as steve, are often demonised in media, and their "recovery" process shown to involve ridding them of any sort of neurodiverse trait. though steve's trajectory isn't linear, in his best behaved moments, it's clear that he still has ADHD traits, and always would, but is just managing it appropriately, due to being in a better environment. once again, not the main point, but important to me.
- the set design is phenomenal, and this is just a visually striking film
