A Clockwork Orange
Long and uncomfortable. After watching eyes wide shut a little over a month ago, I learnt about Kubrick and his style. I loved eyes wide shut and had high hopes for this. Honestly, while watching it I kept checking the time as it felt long and uncomfortable. After finishing the movie, I found that I was not alone. Despite this, I somewhat understand what Kubrick may have been trying to do and I'm still dwelling on what he was trying to demonstrate in this film. This was the same case with eyes wide shut.
Personally, I could never chose a side in this film and I this seems to be the case with many others who watched it also. I think that Kubrick does this on purpose because we always view things and choices as good or bad when it goes deeper than that. Alex can be viewed as a person who deserves all punishment but he can also be viewed as a systematic machine which is hinted in the title "A Clockwork Orange". One might argue he is a piece of shit, and one might argue that he is representative of art, human nature and the freedom of choice. After around 30 minutes of further looking into this film, I can confidently say:
Stanley Kubrick, you've done it again.
