Thief
At its core, Thief is a less grandiose, more budget-conscious precursor of Heat, and without it — Heat likely wouldn’t exist. A Pink Floyd-esque score by Tangerine Dream that perfectly matches Frank’s life and his mentality toward it, the life, of course, being theft. What a directorial debut by Mann, and what an ending. It’s one of those endings that’s impossible to forget. The dialogue is original and extremely enjoyable, which probably doesn’t get said enough. It’s an incredibly authentic crime film, and each character is so easily understandable on a personal level.
No Thief, no Heat. A score that’s just as compelling as the action. Must-watch.
