Frankenstein
really loved this film.
i loved how it was structured as more of a tragedy which i think is fantastic for the narrative and for del toro to be at the helm of (forgive the shipley pun and setting).
i loved all the actors/actresses as elordi isaac and goth are all brilliantly cast and do a fantastic job of portraying the complex dynamism of their roles; but a special applause to bradley and mikkelson too for their smaller but largely important roles.
i almost loved the fact the settings weren’t perfect and felt almost like a stage for the scene, in the same way a broadway show would, while slipping from a total immersion, it created a wonderfully gripping stage-show aesthetic that suited perfectly.
the messaging of this was wonderful too, a classic retold and thank god it was!
