Warfare
i’m no stranger to gritty, visceral cinema, but this was in a league of its own. the perfect balance of violence and gore to cement the gruelling reality of war. no romance, no coyness, just honest dramatisation of conflict.
what a film.
edit
given the criticisms i see in the other reviews, i can understand both perspectives and see how both are right from their views.
i find objectively, at least from my perception, that this film serves as a narrative on the pure brutality of war. it’s no puff piece, and sure it pays tribute to those who lost their lives in a foreign unrighteous war, but i feel this portrayal shows exactly that, the needlessness of american forces in the middle east, and a timely depiction too given the state of the world.
motives for joining can be speculated, but a lot of those who enlisted and return tend to describe regret and feeling misled by propaganda and media like this can help dispel or at least erode the impacts of propaganda- i felt it did at least.
