Buffalo '66
We're taking pictures like we're a couple. Like we like each other. Like we're husband and wife, and we span time together. We span time together as a couple. Because we're a loving couple, spanning time. These photos are us, in love, spanning time
I wish I could watch this film again like it was my first time. I love the characters I mean, the way they’re developed and how the actors bring them to life is just incredible. So here are some things that make me love Buffalo ’66:
I don’t think Billy is a bad person; he’s more like a victim of a cruel world. Sure, he’s harsh, impulsive, and even kidnaps Layla I admit that. But if you look closely, he’s actually a good person with achievements; you can see trophies in his locker from volleyball tournaments. He’s straightforward, tidy, and deep down, he genuinely cares he just tries hard to hide it. He only seems mean because of his life and his family: his father’s temper, and his mother saying “I never wanted him” just because he missed one game. Because of that, he’s been carrying sadness all his life, especially after being blamed for someone else’s crime and spending five years in prison for it.
Billy is lonely until Layla comes along. At first, she follows his orders just to be released, but slowly she starts to feel comfort and love around him. Billy doesn’t notice it at first, since he’s only ever been in love once and never again, but eventually he begins to open up to her. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t kill Scott Wood at the end maybe he remembers that someone still cares for him, someone who loves him, and that gives him the will to live.
I also love Layla because she never judges Billy for his past; she simply loves him for who he is, and that’s what melts his heart.
There are many messages you can take from this film: that your past doesn’t define your future, that love can heal emotional wounds, and that love can grow anywhere even in the most unexpected places.
Overall, I give Bufallo '66 a solid 5/5. It’s a simple story with such deep meaning.
