Watching Donnie Darko was… an experience. At first, I won’t lie, it had me confused as hell like, jet engines, time travel, a creepy rabbit-man?? My brain was doing somersaults trying to keep up. But after diving into an explanation video afterward, it actually clicked, and suddenly I could see the layers of philosophy, fate, and existential dread woven into it. It’s way more than just a “weird cult movie.” What I love is that Donnie himself feels misunderstood, but in this oddly relatable. He’s not just an angsty teen, he’s wrestling with ideas that most people can’t even begin to articulate, and that’s why he feels so alienated. It makes me think the movie itself is kind of misunderstood in the same way: people dismiss it as edgy nonsense, but if you look closer, it’s grappling with some really big questions about free will and sacrifice. Also… “Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?” easily one of the most iconic lines ever, and the kind of thing you’ll never forget once you’ve actually been down the Donnie Darko rabbit hole (pun intended). It’s confusing, haunting, and kind of brilliant.
