You know you have a masterpiece on your hands when you have a couple two rows behind you bitching about whether or not to walk out throughout the course of the third act and whining about how “boring” the movie is. A truly enthralling movie that captures the hysteria and chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the hands of a director like Adam McKay, this could’ve delved into a preachy morality tale a la Don’t Look Up, but Ari Aster doesn’t do that. What we have instead is a cynical and blunt satire where the left wing (white leftists in particular) is completely performative and self-serving, the elected democrats are corrupt and the right wing is completely unhinged and psychotic. But don’t take this to mean that Aster is fence-sitting here. This is ostensibly a left-leaning perspective, as the right is portrayed in a far more critical light. It’s as if something in America completely snapped during the pandemic and never reverted, where everyone is frightened and no one wants to listen to or communicate with each other. Overall, Ari Aster has captured the true absurdities of the pandemic underpinning both sides of the aisle. Easily his best movie.

Adrian Lyne called. He wants his shitty erotic thriller back. And we're supposed to buy that someone as rich and hot as her is a socially inept loner and obsessive stalker??? What a fucking crock of shit this movie is.

Fuck the Roseanne finale, this movie deserved TWICE the viewership it got and then some. This was SOOOOOO much better than people give it credit for. It has the right amount of darkness and whimsy and for a broadcast TV movie, it looks sublime. The TARDIS is the best it’s ever looked here; classical, yet gothic and it really is much bigger on the inside. Paul McGann was an excellent choice to play the Doctor. He captured the outworldly whimsy of Colin Baker, the sly humor of Sylvester McCoy and the gravitas of Tom Baker, and his chemistry with Daphne Ashbrook as Grace is fun to watch. All in all, give me a full season with the 8th Doctor, goddamn it.

I was not expecting it to be so good, but goddamn it, it kicks ass and then some. Awesome action setpieces with some real teeth, especially the third act where Eve takes out a hoard of assassins with a flamethrower. And Ana De Armas truly is an action hero. All in all, a welcome addition to the John Wick series and a great origin story.
