Inception
I watched like 40 minutes of Inception a month ago at my cousin’s place and we both fell asleep because our brains simply clocked out. I rewatched it from the beginning because I was afraid of missing important things from the scenes I had already missed. Finally finished it and I just need to say: Nolan, are you okay??? From minute one it’s already dream inside a dream inside a dream and I’m sitting there like bro we’re going deeper? AGAIN? Who wakes up and decides “let’s build a 4-layer psychological corporate heist in the subconscious”? The crazy part is I’ve actually had dreams inside dreams before. That disorienting “wait am I awake?” feeling? Horrible.
One second here is one minute there is one hour somewhere else is one day in another layer. It’s sick. It’s nauseating. So watching this felt like being trapped in that loop on purpose. And the spinning, collapsing cities, gravity flipping, buildings folding in on themselves, dystopian Pinterest board from hell. Cinematography insane though. Genuinely insane.
But can we talk about Cobb. Sir. You chose THIS as a career? Of all things? Corporate subconscious manipulation specialist? And your wife spirals because of an idea YOU planted? The guilt projection haunting every mission? I was actually getting annoyed every time Mal showed up. Like girl please stop sabotaging the group project. I get it, it’s trauma, it’s guilt, it’s layered, it’s tragic. Still stressful. Every time she appeared I was like oh brother here we go. Lowkey though her ending is devastating. I was mad but also sad. Complicated queen. Arthur being the calm project manager while Cobb is psychologically unstable is wild. Ariadne really signed up for an internship and got emotional baggage deluxe. Imagine being a student and suddenly you’re deep in someone’s subconscious marriage trauma. And Saito being obsessed with Fischer’s “safe combination” like it’s the holy grail… sir this is just capitalism but make it lucid dreaming. And oh Eames, hot daddy, period, love yaa so much. Speaking of Fischer, why is Cillian Murphy THAT fine in this movie??? It’s unfair. He looks like Tom Welling but also Bruce Wayne coded. Soft eyes, sad rich heir energy. I get why the entire plot revolves around him. Yusuf is only in one layer, I expected him to be deeper, lmao. I laugh every time he drives the car like he's trying to extend their lives in DREAMS.
The funniest thing is the mission is technically simple: make Fischer believe breaking up his dad’s empire is his own idea. That’s it. That’s the goal. And yet the execution is the most mentally exhausting labyrinth I’ve ever watched. By the end I was physically tired. Like spiritually jet-lagged. But that final moment with Cobb seeing his kids, I felt that. I really hope he’s actually back in reality because I can't emotionally handle him still being stuck in a dream. The spinning top cutting to black is evil behavior. Anyway, 10/10 brain damage. Great film. Would recommend but hydrate first.
Christopher Nolan please rest. And so will I
