Poor Things
Grandiose, tremendous film
It’s a film about a person, with no norms no filters entering our society and her reaction, her adapting to it. Effectively a critique of our society.
I read all of the bad reviews, and yeah I kinda agree with some points… but from my point of view it was clear from the beginning that the men are taking advantage of her, and even a woman (her pimp), all of them in different ways. I don’t need a massive arrow and light pointing at the guy and saying « bad bad men ». It’s the point of the film to talk about manipulation or grooming. The film is a realistic (lol) portrayal of what being a woman can be and how quickly you are sexualised/used.But It makes me question the message lorganthimos is trying to convey here, where does he stand with his film (I think there is no message the film only show it is not a moral judgement ; but if you can’t have the right judgement that is not the fault of the film). It certainly does not « normalise pedophilia » as some people think it does.
Nonetheless I think it’s not as simple and black and white as some would like it to be.
IMO if the film raises that much debate, then it’s a success.
