The Deer Hunter
It is so simple and yet so powerful,
One of the best anti-war movie, it’s 3 hours and slow pace but you’re never bored, I was wondering how they manage to do this this movie definitely got some magic to it.
The narrative structure is so good, the beginning with the long wedding scene perfectly show that they left the city at the peak of happiness, with lot of friends and a good, peaceful and simple life.
The last scene of the first act end’s with the piano and instantly cut to Vietnam, the shift in tone is so radical as it was for the characters.
Then the whole captivity and Russian roulette part is horrible and traumatising for the characters, it’s the turning point of the whole story and it feels like it.
Later tou come back to the same shot of the factory, you’re back home again but everything feels different. Mike cannot go back to his casual life after experiencing the war.
It’s astonishing how the movie tell a story with so simple and few dialogue and all the emotions are still there if not enhanced. This is also because of the music which is absolutely perfect…
All the mountain shots are gorgeous
De Niro is amazing
I might have a new favorite (and it’s ANOTHER 3hour long Robert De Niro film)
