Blade Runner 2049
“Sometimes to love someone, you’ve got to be a stranger.”
I was not a huge fan of the original Blade Runner, but I have to appreciate the groundwork it laid for its sequel. However, Blade Runner 2049 is undoubtedly better.
The story in 2049 is superior to that of the first and is easily the most visually pleasing film I’ve ever watched. There are several shots in this movie that are truly breathtaking. Some of them have little to no sound, completely depending on the visuals to do the talking. The composers also did a beautiful job and tied the shots together with ease.
I grew a connection to K, unlike Deckard in the original film. Ryan Gosling was perfect for this role and Harrison Ford’s acting was much improved.
One concern I had going into my first time watching this was that it was going to be extremely slow burning. Despite it coming in at almost 3 hours long, it didn’t feel long at all. There were certainly some slower paced parts, but it built up to the last 45 minutes of the movie extremely well.
Blade Runner 2049 is everything I want from a sci-fi film. After wanting to watch it since it’s release, I’ve finally done it. :)
