Frankenstein
“You, are the monster.”
”Victor, I forgive you.”Del Toro you son of a bitch!!! Made another masterpiece that I will rewatch until the end of time! Everything this man touches is just pure gold. Making Victor what he truly was and with little to no redemptive qualities was just what Shelley wrote him to be. I know this is one of Toros favorite stories and it shows in this film, every gory detail. Making the creature a sort of anti hero is what he was written to be: to feel for him but also unconsciously somewhat villainize him. Being the son of an absent/ having no father at all, Frankenstein has always spoken to me and damn I won’t lie I teared up hearing the PAIN in the creatures voice as he talks to Victor for the last time. When Victor says “my son” UGH IT BROKE ME. “Victor, I forgive you,” ugh I’m crying in the club rn. The Sun being the first thing he feels and the last thing he feels in the film 😭
Dammit why is THIS the movie that made me realize how absolutely beautiful and talented Elordi is. The Creature is My type of guy, tall, semi muscular, and dumb (in the beginning). This is the first role Isaac has played that I absolutely hate him, so as playing Frankenstein, well done! Mia Goth had come so far in her acting career getting better and better with each film. Walz is always a great actor in everything he does sad to see his character so short lived but damn did he have a lot of character to him adding that syphilis bit and him wanting to be reborn again was such a cool semi trust in the story.
The “Part” tableaus was a very good idea to break up the book and just overall perspective of the story. The wardrobe department absolutely SLAYED, every outfit was absolutely stunning. The story was good it avoided something’s from the book which was understandable but also making Elizabeth not Victor’s wife but the woman he pined for and couldn’t have gave this story and characters so much more depth. The acting from everyone was great, the rewrite of the story stayed true but had also had new elements that would fit in the novel. Overall such a great film and I think Shelley would’ve been satisfied with what Toro had created!!
