Bones and All
Never did I think I’d build sympathy for nasty people like this but this movie dang sure did that. Now I have to admit, I was a little skeptical on watching this movie given the theme of cannibalism said to be in it but I decided to give it a try anyways and I’m sure glad I did. Like I said at the beginning, one of the most bewildering things about this film is how through all of the horror and cannibalism elements of these characters, you still somehow feel empathy and the humanity in them which I really think shows the genius in this film.
It feels like a warm hug still throughout everything going on with how many emotional themes they put in this storyline. Throughout this journey with the 2 it tells a story embracing themes like longing for love and connection with someone and it hits even harder with these two with this backdrop of loneliness and abandonment they carry with themselves because the way they are. It’s just a really beautiful story, especially seeing it unfold towards the end with them wanting to change and really find who they are inside away from their horrifying demons.
Aside from the great premise there were so many other good things about this movie. The acting was great. Timothee Chalamet’s performance was great and probably my favorite I’ve seen from him so far. The person who really stole the show however was Taylor Russel who just captured and delivered all the emotions in her character so well. Another aspect of the movie I wanna touch on was the score. It’s so dynamic because it just strikes and fits its way into each scene so well.
It captures the horrifying and harrowing aspects of this film perfectly and also the beauty of it just as well. Lastly, the visuals & cinematography were also fantastic, mostly thanks to the beautiful landscape they traveled around throughout this movie. I feel like when they traveled to these remote places it really elevated the film in a way because it made the romance aspect of it feel more intimate. Safe to say, this is such an indescribably unique and magnificent film and will definitely stay with me for a while.
