Soul
Godly bro, talk about soul searching. I honestly forgot how good this movie was. One of the best Pixar movies if not the best. Contains so much of that quirky and humorous spark that Pixar’s known for while simultaneously being an immensely mature film. It tackles some of the most important themes of life as a whole like how do you find and fulfill your purpose as well as what makes up a purpose. There’s many subjective answers to it but this film I think provides a great one.
The movie really reminds us just how much we take life for granted and have things pass us by. The interactions we make, the nature we see, the amazing people we come across, it all makes up the beauty of life and our purpose. Sometimes our purpose isn’t always what we think it is. We get so mixed up in achieving accolades and reaching certain dreams but maybe it’s not all about that maybe life is about the connections and moments we cherish that last a lifetime and can change who we are as a person. That’s what makes our purpose.
Not to mention this film also tackles the idea of nihilism obviously. The thought that our life is void of that meaning, which is what the world of lost souls represents in the movie. A large whole of self doubt and destruction waiting to crush you down and absorb the light in your soul it’s a perfect metaphor for that ideology. The whole afterlife world is in the movie is a perfect example of our souls. It’s almost like a whole capsule of what makes us so unique and set apart. Our memories, passion, and even flaws make us truly who we are as people which ultimately ends up meshing into this beautiful place we call earth.
The visuals in the film are also stunning, some of the best I’ve seen in animation for how well it captures the central feelings of the movie. So many times I found myself lost in its beauty and how detailed the settings are. Even the light and details of the bustling NYC is just great. The score and music to the film is great as well, being so tender and moving right as it needs to be. What else is there truly to say about this movie. It’s truly just magnificent how it captures the beauty of life in a bottle. Just remember, your life matters
