Barbie
This movie has no right to make me as existential as it does. To what extent do we exist and define our identities by others or the system we live? Barbie and Ken discover that change and the need to break this cycle is good actually, and that we need to exit our bubbles and experience something new.
Take charge of your environment, don’t let your environment take charge of you. The Barbies learned that it’s okay to stop letting the patriarchy define their worth, and that we need to search within ourselves to find out who we are, and that it’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to be human, and that’s still beautiful.
The Kens learned that they need to not let their insecurities about themselves define their worth. Both are two sides of such a viscous cycle they make everyone unhappy. You are Kenough!
It’s so hard being a human, but things can and will get better. This movie is optimistic and sees the good in people. I love you Greta Gerwig.
