Sunshine
Sunshine really shows the kind of struggles women still go through in our society. What makes it hit harder is that nothing in the movie feels exaggerated—it’s the kind of situation you can actually imagine happening in real life.
The scene that really stuck with me was when Sunshine nearly miscarried because of the unsafe abortion method she used, and instead of helping her with actual concern and professionalism, the doctor just started preaching. She kept spouting religious nonsense, telling her what she did was a sin and that she should repent and ask forgiveness from God. It was so frustrating to watch because instead of treating her like a patient in need of care, he treated her like a sinner to be scolded. It really shows how judgment and moral superiority often replace compassion when it comes to women’s bodies.
Then there’s that part where the guy and his father come in, acting like “heroes” because they’re willing to shoulder all the expenses for the baby, but they don’t even bother to ask Sunshine what she wants. They make decisions for her like she has no say at all. It’s a painfully accurate reflection of how a large part of our society still views women—not as people with autonomy, but as bodies meant for reproduction.
Ps: THAT BOBOT GUY TOTALLY DESERVED TO GET A BOTTLE BROKEN ON HIS HEAD!!!!!
