Shiki

Shiki is a stylistic exploration into the complexities and ethical ambiguity of human nature, survival, imperfect morality and autonomy through supernatural horror. Honestly as a vampire superfan, I am biased, but (in my opinion) this is a genuinely fresh and profound dissection of the mythos. While I would love to see more, its age and self-contained ending makes a continuation/follow-up unlikely. Though frankly, it doesn't need one - the story served its purpose perfectly. If you were considering this as a first time viewer, go for it, I doubt you'll regret it. Do be warned, there are some pretty grotesque moments of body horror.
