i went in blind and WOW this is truly incredible!! the performative wokeness was such a good example of racism that isn’t blatantly in your face like it was disguised as admiration and then way black people in this film are seen as bodies to exploit because of “advantages” and “traits” was such a strong take. the loss of control in the sunken place was incredible!! the scenes of him floating and falling and not being able to scream are SUCH a good visual for the lack of control!! ROSE!!! ROSE DISAPPOINTED ME!! i was rooting for her 😞 but incredible actress!! because when she was looking for the keys and her face just switched and she became so detached and sociopathic?!? ALSO the cereal and milk separate while searching up NCAA stats was CRAZY!! the actual AUCTION had me shocked… THE SYMBOLISM!! I LOVE SYMBOLISM AND DETAILS!! the deer in the beginning and chris kills the dad with deer antlers?! PERFECT! the camera flash breaking the hypnosis and he’s a photographer?! LOVED IT! the mom being a psychiatrist and dying in her office?!? YES!! but it was so sad seeing chris put his hands up when he saw the police lights even though he was the victim and the way rose JUMPED on the opportunity to use her white privilege 😞 also i’m so glad a horror movie character ACTUALLY fought for their life because for some reason that’s rare?! it’s fault white peoples in movies though so…symbolism?? common themes?!
