another rare actual review
Takeshi Kitano just poetically confronts the duality of masculinity and lonliness in a ways that just makes me put my hands on my head and lean back
you would catch me drinking this movie while listening to soundtrack and meeting its characters for lunch
the parallel he presents between two men supressed between emotions unsaid and differently looked after
-one resided and confined, unable to move so he creates, in stills, paintings frozen in time, the only thing that doesnt brush past him and move onwards
-these paintings aswell are just so discreetly planted, animals with flowers for heads, fucking mad but the way it shows the fragility behind the instinctual male alpha animal facade while also showing emotional expression when words fail
-the other chooses to respond to crisis with force and action not out of evil but to fix a broken feeling he has to be with his terminally ill wife
-one loses himself physically but finds himself through imagination
-whereas the other keeps himself physical and loses himself emotionally
and i think this leads back to the dna of the movie
what happens when a man who wont speak his pain tries to express love in a world built on violence
vs
the futile cover of masculinity which leads to nothing
the paintings, the silence, the explosions, the ending
