The Matrix

This movie still 100% rocks 20+ years later, and feels just as relevant as it did then. With the dawn of the Metaverse, it feels like the tech industry is trying to trick us into accepting the exact dystopia the Wachowskis are warning us of. I'm just stunned by how much swagger this movie has. The costumes are 🔥, the set and CGI still look great, and the music is half kick-ass nu metal and half instrumental scoring that matches the scenes so well you almost forget it's there. And oh, the casting - Neo, Trinity, Cypher, Agent Smith, and especially Morpheus are perfectly cast. One thing that struck me while watching is just how soft-spoken everyone is, especially from Morpheus and Agent Smith. Their monologues feel like soft velvet, a welcome relief from the shouting in most action films. I'm sure I'm not the first to point it out, but part of Morpheus's otherworldly vibe definitely comes from him not appearing to breathe while in the Matrix. A classic for the ages, can't wait to watch the rest of the trilogy and Resurrections! Keanu Reeves Performances, Ranked!
