Just kinda unbelievable that they were able to make this! There are so many comedies I love with jokes that don’t make any sense and don’t lead to anything, and this definitely has those, but also so many of the jokes come back later in a way I’ve never seen before

Even though this type of superhero origin story has been told way too many times at this point, somehow they still managed to make arguably the best superhero movie oat. Also probably my favorite use/style of animation in film. So so good.

Great music, great anime, great movie

I think that Toy Story 1-3 is a perfect trilogy that ends perfectly, Toy Story 4 didn’t need to be made but again ends really well, and this one also didn’t need to be made but ended up being very important. The film definitely has its flaws (pacing, underdeveloped storytelling, unmotivated rehashing of already done storylines in the franchise, etc). I didn’t mind that Jessie was the lead of this one, but especially because at least the first 3 films feel so ensemble heavy it was disappointing that a lot of the toys spent the whole movie in a box with very little screen time in this one and made it not really fully feel like a Toy Story movie to me. I really liked the animation style and portrayal of the imaginary play world, and this film still had a classic Pixar moment that made me emotional (even though it was kinda a copy of Toy Story 2 in some ways). Where this film shines the most (more than woodys bald head) is in its messaging about screens and feels very important for this generation of kids. I was worried that they would pull their punches with that messaging but I don’t think they did. I think this film will make parents want to take their kids tablets away, but more importantly, it shows kids that being online doesn’t create any true connection and shows the importance of play and imagination. But the film also gives a nuanced look that tech isn’t going anywhere so we need learn how to grow with it, without letting it affect us too much. So I think this cash grab film will end up leading to important conversations with kids and while it definitely has flaws I think those conversations are the most important thing to come out of it.
