Despite all the obvious cliches it was entertaining. However most troubling is the depictions of the relations between the Americans and the Ancient Egyptians that is inherently imperialistic, orientalist and colonialist. It was like watching a reenactment of an European explorer ‘discovering’ new lands. Then the fact that these Americans especially and American scientist would provide enlightenment and help ‘free’ the natives of their ruler and religion. Orientalist thinking that prompted colonialism through othering of these non-western peoples. Aside from this problematic aspect, James Spader is always a delight to watch.
