The Batman
Bumping my rating up to 5 from 4.5 because it has stood the test of me rewatching it a hundred times. I figured it would have started to lose some of it’s charm after repeated viewings because I was ultimately very intrigued and unsure where it was going during that first viewing. I thought maybe it was gonna be a “are the Wayne’s shitty rich people like the rest” kinda deal. I like when stories challenge Bruce Wayne’s childlike idolization of his parents because that’s something I think a lot of people have to go through in their lives whether it be a parental figure or a hero etc. It ultimately wasn’t that kinda story but. Yanno. I absolutely adore the fact that we have Batman on screen being a hero and not just a vigilante beating criminals to a bloody pulp. I think the best Batman moments are when he has a chance to showcase his heart and understanding, the scenes with the Mayor’s son are really well done and I like that they didn’t have a scene where he sits down and goes “I understand what that kid is going through because my parents also died and so I empathize”. The scene with Alfred and Bruce in the hospital hasn’t failed to make me tear up in the ten or so viewings to date, every time. I love the dialogue exchanges between characters, especially ones in direct conflict. The score also has surprised me with how much it stuck to me, it made it into my soundtrack playlists alongside other Batman scores (mostly Nolan ones) and that’s pretty sweet. I probably have more to say but this shit already long as my dick so
