i thought it’s about time to log my favorite film on my favorite app (i love letterboxd) ok so before my review, i wanna share how obsessed i am with this film. i’ve watched this film 8 times already (today would be the 9th) and i have an entire section on my notes app dedicated to this film (i wrote down the dates of when i watched it and my thoughts at the time, but i first watched this film on the year it was released which was 2019, discovered this at fb hehe). i’ve read the translated version book twice now (yes, this film was based on a novel, i kept sharing this fact with everyone). i drew the characters twice, here’s one (IT LOOKS SO BAD NOW but i was proud of it). and lastly i have a board on pinterest.. ok wow this is an addiction isn’t it. oh and here’s one of my fav edit of the film my mom said that the advantage of getting older is that you begin to forget things. don’t let anything affect you. you forget it all in the end. however, what they don’t teach you is how to be an adult. the film covers so much. it made me think a lot about uncertainties, my future and goals, my relationships with other people. i was maybe 14 years old when i first watched this, and since then it made a huge impact on me. this is maybe the first film that made me cry so hard, but i remember feeling good about it because i thought “i didnt know watching a film could make me feel so much”. idk how to truly explain but this film has a really special place in my heart you’re the first person to ask me if it hurts. and don’t get me started with the characters. chen nian and xiao bei will forever be my comfort characters. dongyu and jackson yee both acted so fucking good in this film (and still can’t get over the fact that jackson yee was on only 19 when the film came out). their relationship in the film and in the book was something out of this world (idk how to describe it properly). they communicated with their eyes like the way they look at each other???????? I will always be crying with them everytime i watch one of the last scenes iykyk don’t you see? i’m a man with nothing. no brains, no money, and no future. but i love someone. i want her to have a happy ending. literally what is the bare minimum nowadays. this film isn’t really a love story but my standards were set at its highest level when i first watched it. they risked everything for each other. they chose to trust each other until the end. they supported and protected each other. they were so young and innocent, i will never forgive the world for making them go through what they’ve been through (they’re literally fictional characters but i love them so much so what can i do) if this is how the world works, would you want to bring a child into this world? the film also tackles various sensitive topics which was something i didn’t know i would appreciate when i first watched this. WAIT idk what to say now because i started crying again wth i guess i’ll never get over this film. i need to end this but uhm, i’m very thankful that i discovered my love for films. i’m very thankful that i get to watch a lot of these because i don’t know what i’ll do without any of these. i’ve always loved the feeling of getting my mind blown or being deeply moved whenever i watch something and this film really did that to me. i will never shut up about this (can you tell how im deeply inlove with this, it’s getting annoying now huh) AND AAAAA i thank my universe for letting me discover this whyhshshshwj anw bye OH HELL NAH i spent 2 hours watching the film and almost 1 hour writing this review 😭😭

everyday i’d worry, “when will i be free?” gotta love the found family trope
