Stand by Me
“All things must pass”* — George Harrison*
Nostalgia is a ghost that only haunts you once you’ve stopped moving.> This movie made me feel like i was in the good old days, but how does one know that they’re in the ‘good old days’? Am I gonna look back at this moment later on in my life and think nostalgic of it? And how can one be sure to live as much as they can to make the ‘good old days’ good? How do you know when they’re gone? when you’re old and grey reminiscing about your life, do you know that those days are over? That they’re never coming back to you? Do you try to run back and get them or stay as you are and watch them slip through your fingers?> > I wonder if I’ll ever look back at this exact moment, the way the light hits the room, how my hand went numb after laying down on it, the smell of freshly cut vegetables that my mother cooked, the person that i am right now, and ache for it. Probably. That’s the scary part.> > The truth is, you never know you’re in the 'good old days' until the door has already swung shut behind you. We spend our youth trying to run toward a future that doesn’t exist yet, only to spend our adulthood trying to run back to a moment that’s long since faded.> > As the credits roll, I’m left with the same realization as Gordie: I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?
